NDIS Assistance with Daily Life in Sydney — Practical Support, Every Day

For many NDIS participants, the biggest difference a support worker makes isn’t in a therapy session — it’s in the everyday moments. Getting ready in the morning. Preparing a meal. Managing medications. Running errands. These are the activities that shape the rhythm of a person’s day, and when support isn’t reliable, everything else suffers.

SADC Disability Services provides NDIS Assistance with Daily Life (also called Assistance with Daily Activities or Core Supports — Daily Activities) for participants across the Sydney region. Our support workers are trained, NDIS Worker Screened, and matched to each participant based on their goals, communication needs, and cultural background.

We’re a Sydney-based team committed to consistency. Most participants work with the same support worker long-term, because continuity matters.

What Is NDIS Assistance with Daily Life?

Assistance with Daily Life is funded under the NDIS Core Supports budget (Support Category 1). It covers daily living supports designed to help participants live as independently as possible in their home and community.

Personal Care Supports

  • Showering, bathing, and personal hygiene
  • Dressing and grooming
  • Continence care and catheter management
  • Medication prompting and administration support (where qualified)
  • Mobility assistance — transfers, use of equipment, positioning

Household Task Supports

  • Meal preparation and cooking
  • Cleaning, laundry, and home organisation
  • Grocery shopping and errands
  • Garden maintenance (where linked to disability-related need)

Overnight and 24-Hour Supports

  • Active overnight support (support worker remains awake)
  • Passive overnight support (support worker on-call, sleeping on-site)
  • Supported independent living (SIL) where applicable

The SADC Approach to Daily Living Support

We take matching seriously. Before introducing a support worker, we consider language and cultural background, personality, physical or cognitive support requirements, and communication preferences. We’ve worked with participants from Arabic-speaking, Pacific Islander, and South-East Asian communities.

Our support workers are members of the SADC team — not subcontracted casuals. We’ve supported participants with ASD, intellectual disability, physical disability, ABI, psychosocial disability, and multiple complex needs.

“For the first time, our son is actually comfortable with his support worker. That’s made everything else possible.”

Who Qualifies?

To access NDIS-funded Assistance with Daily Life, support must be included in your NDIS plan under Core Supports — Daily Activities (Support Category 1), be reasonable and necessary under the NDIS Act, and not be the responsibility of another system (Medicare, health system, etc.).

If you’re unsure what your plan covers, our team can help you review it — at no cost and no obligation.

How to Get Started

Step 1 — Reach Out: Call or email SADC directly, or ask your Support Coordinator, Plan Manager, or LAC to make a referral.

Step 2 — Needs Discussion & Matching: We’ll understand your daily routine, goals, and what’s working or not working with current supports.

Step 3 — Service Agreement: Clear outline of what we’ll provide, when, at what frequency, and at what cost (within NDIS price guide limits).

Step 4 — Meet Your Support Worker: Introduction before services begin — in a relaxed setting, not on the first shift.

Step 5 — Ongoing Support & Review: We check in regularly and adjust as your needs change. Progress is documented for your next plan review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many hours of support can I get?
It depends on your individual NDIS plan. There’s no fixed maximum — it’s based on what the NDIS assesses as reasonable and necessary. Some participants receive a few hours per week; others receive 24-hour or overnight support.

Q: Can I choose my own support worker?
Yes. We match you with a support worker who fits your needs. If the initial match isn’t right, we’ll find an alternative.

Q: What if I need support overnight or on weekends?
SADC provides support across morning, afternoon, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.

Q: Can my family member provide my support and be paid through the NDIS?
In limited circumstances, the NDIS allows this — but requires specific NDIA approval and is generally only approved where no other suitable provider is available.
